The former Victors’ striker arrived in Kampala on Monday hours after scoring for his Kenyan club Gor Mahia against AFC Leopards in the Kenyan Premier League derby on Sunday
‘Mzee’ as he is popularly known has already joined the Cranes training camp ahead of Sunday’s away game against Mauritania in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nation(Afcon) qualifier.
He arrived at Entebbe International Airport aboard a Kenya Airways flight alongside fellow Kenyan based pros, Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito, Godfrey ‘Jaja Walu’ Walusimbi and Khalid Aucho on Monday morning before boarding the Cranes bus to Jinja, Njeru Technical Centre in Eastern Uganda.
Sserunkuma, who is the Kenyan Premier League leading scorer on nine goals, is expected to fill the void left by injured fellow professional striker Emmanuel Okwi.
The pint sized who has scored 13 goals for his club in all competitions this season, adds to Cranes frontline that already has Brian Umony, Robert Sentongo and Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza. unus Sentamu (DRC) returned to AS Vita and the club are reportedly not willing to release him.
“I am delighted by my good form at club level. I hope to replicate it on national team. We are facing a tough one against Mauritania and are hoping to give our best shot so as to make it to the Group stages of the qualifiers,” Sserunkuma told Red Pepper Online edition.
The team is currently staying at Jinja Nile resort hotel as they train at Njeru, on artificial turf to get acclimatized to the same conditions of the pitch in Mauritania at the Olympic stadium.
Luwagga Kizito and Tonny Mawejje will join with the team in Senegal on Thursday.
