Fire Kills Two Children in Busia

Fire has gutted a house in Buyambi Village in Masinya sub county in Busia district killing two siblings. The incident occurred on Wednesday night at around 10pm.

Micheal Odongo, the Bukedi region police spokesperson identifies the deceased as one-year-old Rita Namusinyi and her three year old sister a one Faith, both children of Kasala Yobo a health worker at Masafu health Centre IV and Lydia Nabwire.

Odongo says the minors were locked up in their parents house when the fire started. He says preliminary investigations show that the fire started from a candle that was left unattended to by the victim’s mother as she went shopping in the nearby trading center.

Their father was not at home at the time. Odongo says that when police received about the incident, cops were dispatched to rescue the minors but by the time they arrived it was too late.

He says the entire household property was also reduced to ashes. Odongo however says investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing.

He warns parents against against  living minors unattended too.  Police has taken the deceased’s body to Masafu health Center IV mortuary for postmortem. The parents of the deceased were also rushed to the same hospital unconscious.
