Kampala Capital City Authority has announced that Kampala road and Parliament Avenue will be closed on the eve of the largest city festival in East Africa that will take place on October 5th.
Ms. Jennifer Musisi, the KCCA Executive Director said that all roads leading in and out of Kampala on October 4 will be closed at 6:00pm on Saturday to allow the team to decorate the city ahead of the festival.
“The whole of Kampala road from KCCA, Watoto Church Central down to the railway and all roads within the city center will be closed on Saturday October 4th to give the event coordinators, Events Warehouse time to beautify the city for the festival. All sponsors with floats will also be required to have their floats at the ready by 4:00am for better coordination purposes and security checks,” she said.
This year’s festival is expected to attract over five hundred thousand revelers from around the city, delegates from neighboring countries and Ugandans in the diaspora.
Ms Musisi also thanked the sponsors; Uganda Breweries Limited (BELL), Red Pepper Ruparelia Group, Movit, and Mukwano Group, among others for the support they have shown to KCCA for this festival in particular and called upon all responsible citizens to turn up in large numbers for the success of the event.
The festival comes just days before the independence celebrations to celebrate the beauty and life of Kampala city, with this year’s theme being “For the love of Kampala”. The festival is expected to attract between 500,000-1 million people up from 300,000 people last year.
