High Court in Apac district has sentenced two people to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of aggravated robbery.
During a special high court session presided over by Lady Justice Winifred Nabisinde on Wednesday evening, 33-year-old Geoffrey Apita and Simon Peter Okello who is aged 36, were convicted for a January 2014 robbery. They are both residents of Apac Sub County in Apac district.
Court found that the duo together with Jimmy Odongo who is serving a 30-year jail sentence waylaid and robbed 20 million shillings from Alex Owula, the proprietor of Ablo Enterprises in Apac town.
The other people in the plan Bonny Ebek who is already serving a 25-year jail sentence and Nelson Ogwal who was also jailed for 35 years in January this year.
The Resident State Attorney, Gloria Akello, told court that the group attacked Oula’s vehicle at around 8pm at Te-Ibuu village along Olel-pek road within Apac Sub County using a gun and took off with his money.
The high court also ordered them to pay compensation to their victim including the actual money they robbed and some interest yet to be computed by the court within 14 days.
Oula said he is happy with the court judgment. He is optimistic that his money shall be paid back.
This case was part of the 43 criminal cases which were being tried in the high court since April this year in Apac district. Only one out of the 43 cases that were earmarked to be tried is remaining.
