Gulu University Gets New Chancellor

Gulu university council recommended to professor Kayanja to President Yoweri Museveni for appointment as Gulu university chancellor.

Professor Fredrick Kayanja, the outgoing vice chancellor of Mbarara University Science and Technology-MUST is the new chancellor of Gulu University.

Jessica Alupo, the Education and Sports minister announced Kayanja’s appointment during his hand over to Professor Celestino Obua, the new Must Vice chancellor at Mbarara university Inn.

She disclosed that in June 2014, Gulu university council recommended to professor Kayanja to President Yoweri Museveni for appointment as Gulu university chancellor.

Alupo says she is happy that President Museveni has accepted to appoint Kayanja as the Gulu university chancellor saying with his clean record he will be able to find a solution to student strikes that have rocked the university of late. Gulu university has not had a substantive chancellor for over five months since the contract of Dr. Martin Aliker expired.

Proffer. Celestine Obua, the Mbarara university vice chancellor who hails from North says the appointment of Kayanja as the new Chancellor  Gulu University will give it a major face lift. Cecelia Ogwal the opposition chief weep in parliament also described the appointment of professor Kayanja as a miracle. Professor Kayanja was born in 1938.

He has worked as as Lecturer at the University of London (UK), Associate Professor at the University of Nairobi, Professor, Dean and Deputy Vice Chancellor at Makerere University (Uganda), Vice Chancellor Mbarara University of Science and Technology and Chairman of National Agricultural Research Organization and National Council for Higher Education (Uganda).

He has got high esteem for research in mammalian reproduction, the vascular role in oesteogenisis, zoonotic diseases, ecology and environment.
