Mbabazi was speaking to hundreds of Kanungu district residents who gathered at Kishenyi Primary School to mark 52 years of Uganda’s independence.

Kishenyi Primary School is in Kanyatorogo sub county.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General said it had been his honour to be selected by President Yoweri Museveni as the right person to hold the office at the time.

Mbabazi was the chief guest at the ceremony.

Mbabazi said that he remains a disciplined member of the NRM and is ready to serve Uganda in any capacity given to him by the party and Ugandans.

Mbabazi, once again, declined to comment on the persistent rumours that he intends to run for the country’s top seat in the 2016 general elections. He said the time was not ripe or right to talk about politics.

The legislator was making his first visit to the district after being dropped as the Ugandan Premier on 19th of September 2014 and replaced with Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda.

Mbabazi arrived at the venue in a convoy of over 100 vehicles, motorcyclists (boda bodas) and chanting supporters on foot. Some of his supporters referred to him as Uganda’s next president.

In his Independence Day celebration message, Mbabazi challenged the youth to focus and work harder for the development of Uganda.

  1. Shrewed and defiant politician? Mbabazi has selected his words carefully: he says “he is ready to serve Uganda in any capacity given to him by the party and Ugandans” he doesn’t say given to him by the President…………………

  2. Nothing will move this man to try and sway him from his target. He’s quite resilient inspite of his calmness. I love this guy
