3 people all members of the same family perished in an accident along Masaka Mbarara highway road in Lwengo district on Wednesday.
The victims have been identified as Nabukenya Asiati (26), and her son Timothy Senabulya (5), and 3 months daughter identified as Tracy Nakintu. The accident occurred on Wednesday evening.
The accident occurred at Kyabogo village, in Kingo Sub County in Lwengo district along Mbarara Masaka highway when a speeding car registration number UAS 307R that was heading to Kampala from Mbarara ran over the trio that was walking alongside the road.
According to eye witnesses Nabukenya was walking back home from Kingo health centre where she had taken her children for immunization by the time they were knocked dead.
George Ssekantukabi ,the village chairperson, says that the deceased were ran over by a speeding Pajero Land cruiser after the unidentified driver lost the control of the car veering off the road knocking dead Nabukenya and her children.
The officer in charge of traffic in Lwengo district Fredrick Wasswa has attributed the accident to speeding and reckless driving. The driver abandoned the car and ran away.
He says that police has towed the car that caused the accident to Kinoni police station as a hunt for the driver begins.
The deceased’s bodies have been taken to Masaka hospital for post-mortem as investigations into the cause of the accident goes on.
