Record champions SC Villa regained their lead atop the Uganda Premier League (UPL) after beat URA 1-0 at Ssaza Ground in Mityana while youngster Kezironi Kizito scored the winner as Vipers recorded their second successive win of the season by edging Entebbe 1-0 at Lugogo on Friday.
Villa kept a clean sheet for their third in four straight Premiership match in a 1-0 victory through a Steven Bengo first-half free kick to move to 9 points, one clear of Police FC.
The victory marks a winning start for new SC Villa coach, Sam Ssimbwa, who took over the ruins of the club after the sacking of former coach, Steven Bogere and Bengo’s heroics 10 minutes of play after a curling free kick that beat goal keeper, Brian Bwete was a deserving welcome for he new coach.
The visitors continued to press Villa and could have finally level matters had sub Frank Kalanda, in for Ali Feni not a squared ball from Elukana Nkugwa found him unmarked and his shot on the turn found Ssebwato at just the right time and place.
“They didn’t do anything. They just played in the back and tried to counter and never really came out. But I congratulate the team, we remained calm and did our job,” said Villa midfielder Hassan Wasswa.
Meanwhile, Police a huge point at Wankulukuku on Friday in game ended 1-1; hosts Kira Young having taken an early lead through midfielder Moses Ndawula.
