The Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura has said the Police Force will stop people plotting to demonstrate and disrupt the National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Delegates Conference slated for December 15th.
During a press conference on Saturday, Kayihura said that Police has got information that the leaders of two groups, NRM Poor Youth and the Kampala Youth Rescue Mission are behind plans to organize illegal activities in the city and suburbs aimed at disrupting normal business and specifically targeting the NRM conference to take place at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
He declined to mention any names behind these groups but warned them to stop what he called illegal activities.
Kayihura said that the two groups are planning to hold illegal meetings, processions, blocking roads and highways adding that Police has also picked information of plans of binging in thugs to attack or cause terror in a sense aiming at disrupting the delegates and causing chaos within and around the venue of the Conference.
He warned that Police will not allow any body or group to disrupt the conference or business life of the city.
He revealed that Police has also summoned some individuals to assist in investigations in addition to making precautionary deployment to ensure that the city and the country are protected.
Yesterday the Deputy Police Spokesperson Polly Namaye said that Police is planning to heavily deploy ahead of the Monday 15th NRM National Delegates Conference.
She noted that they are planning to deploy uniformed and plain clothed officers, crime intelligence, anti-terror and traffic policemen in and around Namboole.
Namaye however declined to reveal the number of Police men to be deployed saying it is going to be a country wide security deployment.
This followed an earlier Request by the NRM deputy Spokes Person Ofwono Opondo for a stand by force to man security at the Namboole Stadium during the delegate’s conference slated for this weekend.
