NRM Officials Suspended For Supporting Mbabazi

Just four days to the National Resistance Movement – NRM National Delegate Conference, the Bulambuli district NRM leadership has suspected two district officials for allegedly canvassing support for  Amama Mbabazi, the former Prime Minister.

Charles Wepukhulu Wetuma, the Bulambuli NRM district and District Enterpreneur League secretary Fred Woswama were suspended by the district Executive on Committee on Tuesday.

The members unanimously resolved to suspend the duo for allegedly supporting Mbabazi. The DEC members alleged that the duo had contravened the NRM code of conduct by making defamatory statements against the party leadership in newspapers and on radio stations.

William Masolo, the Bulambuli District NRM chairperson says the duo was suspended to pave way for investigation into allegations that they were mobilizing support for Mbabazi for the 2016 polls.

He says the two party officials are expected to appear before the NRM District disciplinary committee in February 2015 to defend themselves.

During the meeting, Masolo said the NRM leadership in the district will continue itself from Mbabazi’s associates and sympathizers. But Charles Wepukhulu Wetuma will not have any of this. He argues that, the district executive committee has no authority whatsoever to suspend him

He says on the party disciplinary committee is mandated to take such action adding that, he is still the NRM District Secretary General.

Wepukhulu who could neither deny nor confirm his support for Mbabazi insists that much as they have the majority support for President Museveni, the NRM DEC members should allow internal democracy and respect the rights of others in making political decisions.

Mbabazi has repeatedly distanced himself from claims that, he is planning to challenge his boss. President Museveni recently told a stormy  NRM Central Executive Committee meeting at the State Lodge in Nakasero that he took a decision to sack Mbabazi in order to stop confusion in the party and the country. However, it is largely believed that Museveni sacked Mbabazi because of his political ambitions.

  1. For us from Bulambuli, we know Wepukhulu as a greedy chap, am sure his intentions are to get money from Mbabazi.

  2. What will happen to mbabazi if he officially declares that he wants to stand? will he be arrested.
