Disgruntled NRM Leaders Drag Mbabaali to Museveni

Disgruntled NRM leaders in Lwengo have petitioned party chairman President Yoweri Museveni to intervene and address the escalating NRM party wrangles in the district.

On Wednesday this week, wrangles within the party deepened when a section of their leaders announced sole candidates and ring fenced some seats in the district.

Led by Muhammad Muyanja, the Lwengo District NRM chairman and Vincent Kayitana his Vice, the NRM leaders announced that some key seats in the district wouldn’t be contested in the party primaries.

Some of those declared without going through the party primaries include Joseph Muyomba Kasozi, who is eying Bukoto Midwest, Abdul Kitatta, Bukoto West and Hajj Muyanja Mbabaali, Bukoto South.

Others are Sarah Nkonge who is eyeing the Lwengo District Woman MP seat, George Mutabaazi, LC V chairperson and Hajj Nasil Mutazibwa Lwengo town council counterpart amongst others.

Those behind the move include Hajj Muyanja Mbabaali, the Lwengo NRM chairperson, his vice Vincent Kayitana and Ali Kiwanuka, the party NRM administrative secretary. Shortly after the meeting, Mbabaali said the candidates were identified by opinion leaders and voters.

The announcement solicited angry reactions from party members in Lwengo district.

MP Isaac Ssejoba of Bukoto Midwest, MP Gertrude Nakabira, the Lwengo Woman MP and Eddy Sansa have now petitioned NRM party chairman to intervene.

MP Isaac Ssejoba says the decision by Mbabaali and his team to isolate them is unconstitutional. Ssejoba says they want Museveni to intervene and punish Mbabaali for causing divisions in the party.

MP Nakabira says the decision has left many supporters confused. She says she wants Museveni to allay fears and confusion caused by Mbabaali.

Arthur Sajabbi, another politician says he is unhappy with Mbabaali. Sajabbi, who also wants to contest for Bukoto Midwest seat, says Mbabaali breached NRM party constitution by announcing his desired politicians without going through primaries.

Tushabe Nzabanita, the NRM Mobiliser on Talkshows in greater Masaka region says he does not approve of the candidates Mbabaali declared.

He wants NRM party to punish him for creating cliques in Bukomansimbi.
