The revellers, who had paid 5000 shillings each were angry that the main advertised act Eddy Kenzo (legal name Edirisa Musuuza) had not turned up for the show.
The incident occurred just after 11pm.
Kenzo was part of a line up of performers for a musical show staged at Wobulenzi Taxi Park. The other acts who were supposed to turn up are Aziz Azion, Sabua Natoro, Tip Swizzy, Johnhill Kyobe, David Mugema and Ambassador Ssali.
Posters pinned around Wobulenzi town council indicate that the show had been organised by ‘Gwe Ali mu Taala Entertainment’ and STARNA Fashions. The show was supposed to start at 7pm.
However, almost none of the advertised acts turned up and after hours of waiting, the revellers turned rowdy and started destroying property. Some of the revellers had started filing into the venue as early as 6pm.
Eddy Kenzo is presently one of the most in demand musicians from Africa. Kenzo’s Sitya Loss video was one of the most viewed in the world.
On his official Facebook page on Saturday, January 24, 2015, Kenzo wondered what he should do about concert organisers who use his name to popularise their shows when they do not have an agreement with him.
