Kiprotich’s Daughter Buried

Stephen Kiprotich could grace the Kids of Africa Run for Fun in October.

Liz Chelangat, daughter of Olympic Marathon gold medalist, Stephen Kiprotich has  been buried today in Kapchorwa District.

Dominic Otuchet, the President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Liz Chelangat who died on January 2 was laid to rest in Kwati Village.

Otuchet explained that little girl had been admitted to Mbale Hospital, but died on the journey to Kampala after being referred to Mulago Hospital. Chelangat who was born in 2013 was the third child of the Olympic Champion.

Kiprotich is Uganda’s leading athlete after winning gold for the country in an Olympic Games since the last one had been won at the Munich Olympics in 1972.

After bagging gold in London, Kiprotich went on to win the Moscow IAAF championship marathon on 17 August 2013 which made him the reigning World and Olympic marathon champion.

The 25-year old athlete is the second person, after Gezahegne Abera, to follow an Olympic marathon gold medal with a world championship gold medal.
