Festo Karambuzi, a resident of Kikarara parish Bwambara Sub County, was on January 01, 2015 speared to death during celebrations to usher in a new year in Rukungiri District.
The deceased was reportedly speared to death by a friend identified James Nuwamanya (34) after a quarrel over alcohol during celebrations to welcome the New Year at Kashenyi trading center, Kikarara parish Bwambara Sub County at about 20 minutes past midnight.
The suspect later on handed himself over to the Police to escape the wrath of the locals who were mobilizing to lynch him.
According to the Police, Nuwamanya handed himself in with the spear used in the killing.
Kigezi regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate says that apart from the incident, there were no other major incidents that have been recorded in the districts of Kabale, Kisoro, Rukungiri and Kanungu at the beginning of the New Year 2015.
Maate says that there has been a good and close working relationship between the Police and locals throughout the festive season and hopes it continues.
Festo Karambuzi’s death is the second recorded killing in Uganda on January 01, 2015. The first was Fred Musisi’s killing in Luweero.
