President Yoweri Museveni has renewed his call to Judges to deny bail to suspects of serious crimes like murder.
President Museveni renewed his call yesterday morning in his opening remarks at the 17th Annual Judges Conference in Entebbe.
Museveni urged judges to deny bail to suspects of serious crimes such that suspects should first be detained for more than 180 days.
With the theme; the role of judiciary in accelerating the transformation of Uganda’s economy, the president accused lawyers and judges for frustrating investment there by lowering the growth of the economy.
The President also urged judicial officials to create a strong judicial system.
“There is an ideological divergence between some of the freedom fighters and some of the judiciary. It should be addressed,”
He further said that; “the purpose of the judiciary is to protect life, property, freedom within the law, stability, morality according to the law and governance by the constitution.”
