Striker Herman Wasswa netted a late goal to guide KCCA FC to a 1-0 win over visiting Cosmos De Bafia on Saturday in the first leg of the preliminary round in the 2015 CAF Champions League.
Wasswa, had earlier missed several scoring opportunities, but took his chance late after 82 minutes when placed a hard shot past the Comos De Bafia goalkeeper Mengue Tsogo.
The Cameroonian side had earlier absorbed lots of pressure in the first half with KCCA FC’ Wasswa and William Wadiri causing their defenders lots of problems.
KCCA FC’s goalkeeper also made two fine point blank saves taken by Marcel Guy Ntjaka and Jacques Jean Mbassi.
Later in the second half Cosmos De Bafia had Patrick Nai sent-off for a second bookable offense after he dived in the box. On 58 minutes substitute Paul Mucwerezi should have given KCCA FC the lead, but placed his shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Wasswa had another good chance to score for KCCA FC on 70 minutes, but his header from a William Wadiri cross missed the target. He later made amends by scoring the lone goal.
Thomas Libiih, the Cosmos De Bafia Coach said they will also go back to the drawing board to make sure they win the return leg by a bigger margin. The KCCA FC Coach Abudallah Mubiru said he will also make sure his team improves in the striking department ahead of the second leg.
