Parliament Honours Kagina

Members of Parliament across the political divide have commended the former Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority Ms Allen Kagina for transforming the tax body from one described as corrupt to a reputable tax collector.

The mover of the Motion and Bulamogi County MP Hon. Kenneth Lubogo hailed Ms Kagina for transforming the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to an organization that has realized revenue collection from Ugshs1.92 trillion in 2004 to Ugshs8.03 trillion in 2014.

“Ms Allen Kagina was a humble servant put together a winning team which has collected a lot of taxes and this has contributed to the current strong Ugandan economy”, he said.

Hon. Lubogo commended Ms. Kagina for her ability to transform URA to a more efficient institution citing that she managed to reduce bureaucracy and misappropriation of funds which were the major setbacks of the institution.

Kyandondo East MP Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju also thanked the former Commissioner General for her contribution and highlighted the fact that she rose through the ranks at URA unlike some leaders who are political appointments.

Ms Allen Kagina joined the Uganda Revenue Authority in 1992 as a Principal revenue Officer before rising through the ranks and being appointed Commissioner General in 2004. She served in that position until June 2014.
