Legislators have today, Tuesday 24th February 2015 paid tribute to the late King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia.
The Motion to pay tribute to the late King of Saudi Arabia was moved by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda who paid homage to King Abdulaziz and pointed out the exceptional leadership of the King to his nation and the world at large.
Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda said that the late King left a memorable working experience that should be an envy for any leader across the world.
“The King pursued a peaceful foreign policy, supported financial development and the education of many children all over the world”, the Prime Minister said.
The Premier also added that the late King Abdullah Bin Abdulazizz was an advocate for world peace, stability and security through dialogue and brokerage of peace agreements in different parts of the world.
“He was consistent and unwavering in his condemnation of the killings of innocent people by groups falsely claiming to be Islamic. He urged total cooperation in the fight against this scourge”, the Premier added.
The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister also highlighted the donations made to Uganda by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the late King which came in handy for education, health and in disaster situations.
“The Kingdom donated US$ 2 million to the Uganda Heart Institute at Mulago and also came in handy after the landslides in Bududa”, he concluded.
The Leader of the Opposition Hon. Wafula Oguttu who seconded the Motion said that the late King was a master politician who gained fame as a strong leader who carried out radical reforms.
“He announced measures to allow women to vote and also run for electoral offices. He was also firm on the discipline of sticking to the cultural and religious norm of Saudi Arabia”, Hon. Wafula Oguttu said.
