Unknown People have torched Keith Muhakanizi’s 400 hectares of pine along Mbarara-Masaka Highway in Lwengo District.
Muhakanizi is the Permanent Secretary to the national Treasury.
It is alleged that people who set the trees ablaze are the ones that he evicted from the land and they were on a revenge mission.
When contacted, Muhakanizi revealed that the tragic incidence happened two weeks ago.
He further revealed that part of the plantation was saved from the razing fires.
“Police detectives and neighbors did great to stop fire from spreading further. You know Pine is like Petrol so it hard to cool down the fire but they did their best and I thank them for that,” revealed Muhakanizi.
He added that the Government is still teaching the masses on advantages of tree planting and on how to avoid hazards like fire and drought.
He also clarified that the fire was not set by the people who were evicted from the land.
Lwengo District LC5 Chairman George Mutabazi said that; “I condemn the act and all that was done indicates that Lwengo Community is still backward, primitive and jealous.”
