Kampala Woman Member of Parliament Nabilah Naggayi Sempala has today morning withdrawn her candidature from Forum for Democratic Change General Secretary race in protest of electoral irregularities within Kampala grass root party elections.
“Under the prevailing circumstances, I am left with no choice but to withdraw my candidature from Secretary General Position,” a press statement circulated by her supporters at the Speke Hotel reads
In the statement, Nabilah said that she was greatly shocked and alarmed by many voting irregularities in FDC grass root elections in Kampala City.
Irregularities included loss of the Kampala city FDC voter’s register, fraudulent process of registration, presiding officers not turning up in designated poling centers and deletion of registered members from Kampala City FDC register.
She argued that FDC Electoral Commission Chairperson has lost credibility to organize free and fair elections.
“It must be noted that as FDC members, we must not be denied our right to choose our party structures and decide the destiny of our party.”
Most of her of her supporters at the press conference were Makerere University FDC chapter members who also withdrew from Kawempe South grass root elections last Sunday citing electoral irregularities.
Where Red Pepper online inquired why Nabilah was not at the press conference, a source that spoke on condition of anonymity said that Nabilah was around but did not want to be seen.
The National Delegates’ Conference which will elect new party leaders is going on at UMA grounds Lugogo.
