Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) has released a 12 player final squad for the She Cranes team that will be travelling to Sydney- Australia to represent the country in the 2015 Netball World Cup that kicks off on 7th to 16th August this year.
The team will be commanded by UK based Loughborough Lightening club and team Captain, Peace Proscovia at the show piece where the mighty She Cranes side are seeded in Pool D alongside Fiji (seventh) ,Wales (eighth) with fellow African side Zambia.
Other players on the squad are Prisons’ forwards, Florence Amono, NIC dynamic attacking duo of Racheal Nanyonga and Stella Oyella who are to sharpen the striking force on the team.
The midfield will see Apako Harriet (Police) Nakachwa Halima (Prisons),Meeme Ruth (NIC), Achan Jesca (Prisons) with the defensive line led by Ajio Lillian (Prisons), Nanyonga Florence (Prisons) Namukasa Betty (NIC) and Nanteza Sempala Alice (NIC).
Meanwhile the She Cranes request to travel with dropped off players has faltered after the Federation’s President Susan Anek cited lack of enough funds to enable 3 dropped players to travel with the team.
The three dropped players were Hadijah Nakabuye, the versatile Martha Soigi and Susan Atino who were compensated with Ugx2m for their national duties.
Only six players from the then squad that helped Uganda to qualify to the final world cup show piece in Botswana last year have made it to the final squad.
The team will depart on Saturday 1st August aboard Emirates Airways and is expected in Australia on 3rd August.
