She Cranes Arrive Safely In Australia

Uganda National Netball team, She Cranes contingent for the 2015 World Cup safely arrived in Australia on Sunday evening.

The team travelled with a total of 12 players and is expected to play some international warm up friendlies on Tuesday and Wednesday before the grand opening on August 7.

The team was officially flagged off by President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta on Friday at the National Council of Sports (NCS) premises before they left the country on Saturday noon.

President Museveni donated $ 1000 to each member of the 23 traveling contingent (12 players and 11 officials).

The team’s new head coach, Rashid Mubiru, who replaced Fred Mugerwa at the last minute after the netball federation made the shocking appointment, promised a great performance at the show tournament.

“We have had serious preparations than before, the players are physically and emotionally strong to encounter the long awaited tourney,” Mubiru said.

The She Cranes Manager, Justus Kaweesa commended the NRM government for their support and commitments towards the development of Sports in Uganda.

Meanwhile, She Cranes Patron, Sarah Nkonge also thanked the President for his support and contribution to the team.

Uganda is drawn in pool C alongside Fiji, Wales together with fellow Africans of Zambia.

Uganda last featured in a netball world cup tourney the year, 1979 in Trindad and Tobago.

Defenders: Lillian Ajio (Prisons), Nanyonga Florence (Prisons) Namukasa Betty (NIC) and Nanteza Sempala Alice (NIC).
