The Uganda Premier League match days have been shifted from the previous traditional Tuesdays and Fridays to Wednesdays and Saturdays.
With the forthcoming season, all premier league club fixtures have been scheduled for Wednesdays and Saturdays in contrast to the initial playing days.
The confirmation message was communicated by the league CEO, Benard Bainamani during the weekly press briefing at FUFA House, Mengo, Kampala on Wednesday.
“We shall be having our league matches on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting with this forthcoming season, we have agreed to this after a request from clubs. We believe this is the only way to promote our own league and we fear no competition from the foreign leagues,” Bainamani stated.
Bainamani also hinted on the delay of club registration and licensing process.
He described the delay as a major hindrance for releasing the 2015/16 match fixtures.
“Clubs have been slow at completing the registration and licensing process. There is no way we could draft fixtures without clubs since we haven’t confirmed all of them”
The new football season starts on Saturday, 15th August 2015 with the Super Cup between SC Villa and Vipers before the league officially kicks off on the 23rd of the August 2015.
