Buliisa health facility was yeterday commissioned by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The hospital was majorly constructed by constructed by Tullow Oil.
The construction of the health facility in partnership with Buliisa district local government and the Ministry of Health is aimed at establishing mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders and contributing towards long term improvements in the quality of life for the local communities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Buliisa, the president commended Tullow for its commitment to improving the welfare of the local communities.
“I want to thank Tullow Oil for the great role they are playing not only in oil and gas developments but also in shaping the future of communities in Bunyoro through the provision of a health facility and health care services. This health facility will contribute towards long term improvements in the quality of life for the local communities in Buliisa,” he said.
In his speech, Mr Jimmy Mugerwa, the General Manager Tullow Uganda mentioned that over the last 10 years Tullow Oil has invested over $12m in community investment projects that include a Primary Schools in Kaiso and Sebagoro, a health center IV in Kyehoro, an Enterprise Development Center in Hoima town and a Community Center in Buliisa among other voluntary social investment initiatives.
However, Mr. Mugerwa pointed out that as an oil company Tullow has to rely on the government and the district authorities to create the requisite social and administrative infrastructure to sustain these facilities.
“Your Excellence, while these infrastructure projects are absolutely critical to improving the delivery of essential services like education and health, we do believe that the greatest contribution we can make to the community and to the country in general is through the positive impacts of our business itself – through employment to young people, contracts for services, our supply chains, and payment of taxes.”
The health facility was based on the Ministry of Health specifications and includes: a section for an operating theater, out patients section, maternity ward, general ward, attendant’s shelter, toilets and bathrooms, a generator house, medical waste pits, an incinerator and accommodation units for doctors and nurses.
