The Electoral Commission yesterday verified signatures of three presidential aspirants including the incumbent president Museveni, former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and Forum for Democratic Change (FRC) flag bearer Rtd Col Dr. Kizza Besigye.
This means that the three Presidential aspirants have accomplished the first Electoral Commission requirement of collecting 100 signatures from at least each of the required 77 districts.
“This afternoon, the National Electoral Commission issued a certificate showing that I had completed stage 1 of the nomination process. With the certificate in hand, we can now get on with verification of all other nomination documents”, Mbabazi said yesterday.
“The National Electoral Commission writes to NRM’s Sole Candidate H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” NRM communicated Via Facebook.
“Today Electoral Committee Chief Michael Kabaziguruka received the Certificate of Compliance with Section 10 (1) (b) and (3) of the Presidential Elections Act 2005 as (amended) for candidate Dr. Kizza-Besigye for the office of the President of Uganda,” FDC posted on their official Facebook page yesterday.
The certificate of compliance with section 10(1)(b) and 3 of the Presidential Elections Act (2005) sent to each of the three noted that they had submitted the list of supporters for their candidature for presidential elections, 2016 and the electoral commission had verified at least 100 supporters from each of at least two thirds ( 2/3) of all districts in Uganda.
