We Shall Denominate Candidates Who Go Against Laws—Kiggundu

Electoral Commission boss Eng. Badru Kiggundu has issued a stern warning to presidential aspirants that the commission will not tolerate unlawful activities during campaigns.

Addressing media at the Electoral Commission offices along Jinja road today morning while issuing final guidelines ahead of presidential nominations which will kick off on Tuesday next week, Kiggundu said it is possible to denominate whoever engages in acts centrally to set laws and guidelines.

“We will de-nominate any candidates who engage in acts contrary to law and guidelines issued for smooth execution of various electoral activities,” he said. Adding; “We can hold different political views and still live together as communities and a country. Elections should never divide us.”

Kiggundu said President Museveni is allowed to come to Namboole with his security detail.

He said the commission condemns acts of violence during various on-going electoral activities.

“Ugandans must desist from any actions that may lead to disorder.”

The just concluded National Resistance Movement Elections to elect flag bearers were marred by violence and rigging.

Kiggundu noted that Presidential campaigns are scheduled to start on

November 9, 2015.

He said candidates will conduct campaigns in line with harmonised and approved campaign programme which will be shared with all stakeholders.

“Candidates will sign Memorandum of Understanding to affirm concurrence with harmonised programme…No campaign meeting shall be allowed in any part of the country until after nomination of candidates and harmonisation of campaign programme,” he said.

He said access to Namboole will be restricted to authorised persons.

And aspirants will use two vehicles with occupants not exceeding 20.
