Yesterday, President Museveni met the taxi drivers’ representatives from Kampala Operational Taxi Stages Association and Uganda Transport and Development Association at Entebbe State House and promised them loans to buy buses.
” We are developing from this level to a global level, so it is important to have buses to reduce pollution, and overcrowding of the city, we shall however, give first priority to taxi operators to buy buses, by giving them loans that they can pay over 5 years, so that they use buses rather than Kamunye,” said the president.
The drivers complained that the leadership of the stage committee is manipulated by KCCA and does not give the taxi drivers the chance to manage themselves.
He advised them to pay their dues to only KCCA.
“There’s need for them to pay only KCCA to avoid double taxation plus the workers on the stages should be paid by KCCA,” advised the president.
