Drunken UPDF Officer Sentenced to 50 Years for Killing 2 Women

The General Court Martial sitting at Makindye has sentenced today () a UPDF soldier to 50 years imprisonment after found guilty of murdering two women in Luzira by shooting.

A Seven Member court chaired by Maj. Gen Levi Karuhanga unanimously agreed that Private Wilson Cheptai should serve a long a custodial sentence so as to act as an example for other trigger happy soldiers. On the night of 16th, April 2010, at Luzira lake side Bristol bar, a drunken private Cheptai shot dead Regina Abar and Mariam Alunyo after the 3 got in to a quarrel.

Cheptai denied the offence then but prosecution at the Army court led by Maj Fredrick Kangwamu led satisfactory evidence to that effect. Meanwhile, Constitutional Court has also ordered City businessman Drake Lubega to vacate the Baganda Bus park land which he fraudulently obtained from Rally motor ace Charles Muhangi.

Five Judges led by Rubby Opio Aweri based on the letter addressed to the Registrar of Lands by president Museveni , ordering her to cancel all Lubega’s land tittles in respect to this land comprised on plots 50-52 Nakivubo road also housing his Qualcel -bus terminal building on grounds that the tittles were fraudulently acquired. In addition, Judges ordered Lubega to pay costs to Muhangi and Attorney General for dragging them to court yet his petition raised no matters for Constitutional interpretation.

Lubega and Muhangi have engaged in this land rows for over eleven years, but the High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court have been ruling in the favor of Muhangi.
