Electoral Commission has relented to pressure from embattled Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, setting new date for Kampala Lord Mayor nomination.
In a press statement, Electoral Commission chairman Badru Kiggundu yesterday evening said nominations will be conducted on from 18th – 20th November.
“Following a consultative meeting by the Minister for Kampala with the Electoral Commission, held today, Monday, 16th November 2015, on the above matter, the Electoral Commission, announces resumption of the electoral process for Lord Mayor, Kampala Capital City Authority, under Section 9 of the KCCA Act and The Local Government Act, Cap 243 (as amended),” Kiggundu said.
He added; “The nomination of candidates for Lord Mayor will therefore, be conducted from 18th – 20th November 2015, at the Office of the Returning Officer, Kampala, Minister’s Village, Plot 9 Muwafu Road, Ntinda, Kampala, starting at 9:00am until 5:00pm.”
Last week, the Electoral Commission postponed the nomination of candidates for the election of Lord Mayor after government tabled a bill proposing amendment of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) that would see lord mayor elected from councilors.
