Fred Enanga, Police spokesperson

The media especially social media is awash with stories of an impending arrest by Police of the Hon. Amama Mbabazi, a Presidential aspirant, who is scheduled for Presidential nominations tomorrow 3rd, November, 2015 at the Mandela National stadium at 11:00am.

This follows announcements that were allegedly made during a press conference held at the party offices, at Nakasero, by the Hon. Amama Mbabazi’s legal team.

The Police would like to rubbish such claims as baseless, malicious and unfounded as there is nothing of the sort. Any investigation for murder or fraud is a process that involves the collection of several documents from experts, and an account from various witnesses.

To further put the record straight, the Director Kampala Metropolitan Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Byakagaba Abas, today met with members of the Hon. Amama Mbabazi’s campaign team and discussed modalities on security and traffic guidelines, surrounding his nomination and the subsequent event, of launching his Presidential campaign manifesto, at Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium, tomorrow 3rd November, 2015.

The Police would like to warn all political party organizations and candidates to stop making political capital out of its image.

We therefore, demand that the Hon. Amama Mbabazi’s legal team comes out with strong, authentic and convincing evidence to support their claim.

Otherwise for them to continue peddling lies through unguarded statements, to purposely promote fear and or attract sympathies for political mileage, on the eve of the Presidential nominations, is engaging in self-serving politicking, for which they are seriously warned. And on this occasion, if they fail to prove themselves out, they will definitely face criminal penalties for their falsifications.

The public must therefore, note that the announcements today of threats of arrest against Hon Amama Mbabazi is absolutely false and not based on the strongest of evidence but rather a politically useful statement.
