Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development Hon Muruli Mukasa has said the ministry received reports that Prince David Kijanangoma and a clique of people of Tooro are planning to overthrow King Oyo.
“Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has received allegations that a one prince David Kijanangoma is planning to overthrow the current Omukama of Tooro, Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV,” Hon Muruli Mukasa said in a press statement on Tuesday.
He said that the ministry has not received any communication to whether Prince David Kijanangoma has followed The Institution of Traditional or Cultural Leaders Act, 2011 that guides the installation of traditional leaders.
The minister noted that Kijanangoma proposed enthronement as the Omukama of Tooro is contrary to the provisions the act.
He said the ministry is not associated to purported overthrow of the current Omukama of Tooro by Prince David Kijjanangoma. “The Ministry hereby informs the general public and in particular the people of Tooro that the installation of a traditional leader or a cultural leader in any area of Uganda is guided by the institution of Traditonal or Cultural leaders Act, 201.”
Hon Muruli Mukasa directed “Prince David Kijjanangoma and his supporters to stop forthwith the acitvities to the overthrow of the reigning king and enthronement of Prince David Kijjanangoma in the guise of reuniting the Batooro.”
