Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye has said people of Kitgum should not castigate the district woman Member of Parliament Beatrice Atim Anywar for supporting independent presidential candidate John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.
Addressing a rally in the district, Besigye noted that the party has for long fought for democracy that empowers people to make independent political choices.
“Do not to blame Beatrice Anywar for supporting Amama Mbabazi, we have long fought for democracy that empowers people to make political choices including supporting candidates of their choice,” he said.
Anywar broke ranks with FDC top officials early November when she publicly declared that she would support Amama Mbabazi instead of Besigye, the official party flag bearer.
She was among people that nominated Mbabazi.
The party of officials responded by denying her an opportunity to contest for Kitgum Municipality seat on the FDC ticket arguing that she supported Amama Mbabazi, something that contradicts the principles of FDC.
The party last week declared Denis Onekalit Amere as the official party flag bearer for the Municipality MP seat.
However, Anywar was seen at FDC rallies in the district.
