The former prime minister who is contesting as an independent candidate was yesterday campaigning in Apac district.

When it clocked 6:00pm, Police blocked Amama Mbaabzi rally at Boma Grounds.

Accompanied by a number of supporters, he opted to go to Divine radio, a local radio station to speak to the local population.

Earlier in the day, Antiriot police blocked Amama Mbabazi from visiting Barlonyo Mass graves. Security also heavily deployed at Apac Hospital and locked patients inside.

Crime preventers have been condemned by a section of opposition politicians and religious leaders.

Leader of opposition in parliament Hon. Wafula Oguttu recently claimed that police has trained a number of crime preventers in vote rigging.

“This month a number of crime preventers, were invited from each District for special training at Masindi Police a Training college. The special training was about Voter Register manipulation, vote rigging, identifying and separating non- NRM members and supporters, the dead and those who have moved away from their areas,” he said.

He added; “On completion of the training, the cadre militia were armed with copies of EC Voters Register broken into polling stations.

Oguttu who  held two meetings with the Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda over the issue of crime preventers argued that what they agreed upon has been simply ignored by the President.

“We agreed that crime preventers would only be used to do crime intelligence work in their villages, would not arrest and would not carry weapons”
