Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura has said Independent presidential candidate John Patrick Amama Mbabazi is moving with militias.
Addressing residents of Ntungamo yesterday, Kayihura said Mbabazi must disband his militia or face arrest.
“If we can disband Kakooza Mutale, how can we let others have such militia, we will arrest them, Mbabazi must disband his militia,” Kayihura said.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the police is investigating the circumstances that led to the clash between supporters of President Yoweri Museveni and those of independent candidate Amama Mbabazi in Ntungamo.
The police said they have so far arrested two people in connection with the clashes.
Fights ensued on Sunday evening when Mbabazi and Museveni supporters clashed. Most supporters of the latter were out-powered.
NRM injured supporters were evacuated to Mbarara regional referral hospital to access better medical services.
Former Uganda Ambassador to United States of America said Edith Grace Ssempala criticized evacuating NRM wounded supporters.
“Museveni goons have been disrupting Amama rallies with impunity. Earlier on the 10.00 PM Agataliiko Nfuufu showed the IGP personally picking his wounded boys in a police helicopter, to take them to the hospitals. As to who is behind these criminal acts and who the goons are, the writing is on the wall,” she said.
