President Museveni who is campaigning in Kigezi region has said the government will build a big iron ore smelting plant in Rubanda county, Kabale district.
While addressing huge crowds in Rubanda East yesterday, Museveni who is the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate noted that the region is rich in iron ore.
“Rubanda is rich in iron ore resources. The NRM Government wants to build a big iron ore smelting plant. The gas from Lake Albert will be delivered to Butogota and the neighbouring areas to facilitate the processing of iron ore,” he said in Rubanda East.
His next stopover was in Rubanda west where he promised to create jobs for the soaring youth unemployment. “We are committed to tackling youth unemployment. With more industries coming up, youth need skills to ensure they are employed.”
The big number of voters that are gracing president Museveni rallies maybe an indicator that Kigezi region “will not” back Independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi who hails from the area.
While campaigning in the area recently, Mbabazi blamed low turnout at rallies on police and Kabale deputy RDC for intimidating and stopping his supporters from attending his rallies.
The former prime minister and NRM secretary general broke ranks with president Museveni in mid 2015 when he announced that he would contest for party chairman and flag bearer, the positions occupied by Museveni. He later bowed out of the party to contest as an independent candidate.
