The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) longest serving Executive Secretary Mathew Bukenya is set to retire at the end of March, UNEB Chairman Prof Mary Okwakol said yesterday.
Bukenya will be replaced by Mr. Daniel Nokrach Odongo who is the current is the current deputy secretary in charge of Secondary School Examinations at UNEB.
The announcement came after releasing Primary Leaving Examination results yesterday.
The search for a new UNEB executive kicked off in October 2015 after the examination board hired a consultancy firm, Dama Consultants Limited, to help identify a suitable person for the top post.
In 2013, the search process for the new Executive Secretary ran into trouble after a dispute erupted with Fagil Monday, the then board Chairman resigning when President Museveni renewed Bukenya’s contract which he opposed.
Mandy had also been accused of ring-fencing the process to suit one of the candidates and the Inspector General of Government halted the search process since they had not followed the right procedures.
