Government has removed the Resident District Commissioner of Buhweju district Mr.Moses Mwebesa over allegations of evading a church on suspicion that its parish priest supports a candidate affiliated to Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
On Friday last week, the Resident District Commissioner accompanied by the District Police Commander (DPC) and District Internal Security Officer (DISO) evaded Bihanga Parishioners “taking over the pulpit and ordering everyone to leave the place.”
The RDC was accusing the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Baingana Kenneth for “allegedly supporting a candidate who, in the RDC’s opinion he shouldn’t have supported.”
Minister for presidency and Kampala Frank Tumwebaze said Mwebesa has been removed and investigations into the matter will commence. .
The current deputy RDC of Mbarara district has been sent to Buhweju district to act as a care taker.
“We have removed the RDC of Buhweju to investigate the allegations. If he acted irregularly he will be punished. But if he is being framed because of local politics on the ground we shall also know. Katera Emmy the current deputy RDC of Mbarara has been sent there to care take the station,” Tumwebaze posted on Facebook.
Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association (AMDA) Chairman Gaston Ampe said the association condemns the RDC action in a press statement released on Tuesday while Grace Paul Bakyenga, the Mbarara diocese arch bishop and the Christians led by Rev Fr. Baingana want the RDC to publicly apologize for his actions.
