Former Intelligence Chief Gen. David Tinyefuza aka Sejusa has been charged and sent to Luzira Prison until Tuesday next week when he will again appear before the court martial for bail application.
Sejusa was charged of cases including participating in partisan political activities, insubordination and absence without official leave at Makindye military barracks today.
He was first charged of absence without leave but his lawyers argued that “by not paying his emoluments, withdrawing of his guns and uniform and not deploying him, the army retired Sejusa constructively,” and that Sejusa “applied for retirement which after 90 days was not responded to. His arrest, on the other hand, was a reply perhaps.”
Sejusa’s second charge was participating in political party activities, contrary to UPDF law. He was also charged with insubordination for defying CDF Wamala’s orders when he attended political rallies in Kabale and Arua, and attending Kizza Besigye’s nomination rally on November 4th, 2015 where he asked the crowd to vote for the Forum for Demicratic Change flag bearer.
Sejusa Speaks Out
While addressing the court, Sejusa said he is held locked up in a dungeon where Amin took him in 1976.
“Let it be recorded that I am being held in Cell number 4, the dungeon which we used to call ‘Cell of No Return’ where Amin took me in 1976,” he said.
Sejusa was arrested on Saturday in an operation led by Deputy Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda Lieutenant General Charles Angina who was acting on orders of Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Katumba Wamala.
