Government has kicked off the process of distributing hoes to the countryside citizens in a bid to fulfil Museveni’s pledge of eighteen (18) million hoes to six (6) million households.
Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda yesterday was in Arua District to launch the programme.
“In Terego, Arua District, we launched a government programme of distributing hand hoes, in fulfilment of President Yoweri Museveni’s promise of providing 18 million hoes to six million households countrywide. President Museveni is a trusted leader who keeps and fulfils his promises. The hoes will be distributed to all deserving households without discrimination,” a statement posted on Rugunda’s official Facebook page reads.
Museveni who is the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate in a letter dated November 20th 2015 directed Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda to plan for the purchase of 18 million Hoes.
The letter was also copied to the Vice President, Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development, Secretary to the treasury and Permanent Secretary Office of the Prime Minister, Museveni noted that the hoes will be distributed to 6 million households, with each receiving three hoes.
“I direct that in the next financial year (2016/2017), you include in the budget the purchase of 18 (eighteen) million hoes. These hoes will be distributed to 6 (six) million households each receiving 3 (three),” the letter reads.
Museveni added; “we had discussed this issue in the cabinet with a view of providing some hoes during the current financial year. What happened?”
