A team representing president Museveni yesterday rejected Voice of America’s Straight Talk Africa host Shaka Ssali as one of the moderators for the second round of presidential debate slanted for tomorrow.
In a meeting, the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party team led by Mike Sabalu asked Inter Religious Council of Uganda-IRCU to drop Shaka Ssali.
The NRM team argued that Shaka Ssali is anti-Museveni.
The NRM team argued that Shaka Ssali is subjective towards the government and they also claimed that he has been labelling NRM government as “corrupt.”
The Inter Religious Council yesterday presented Dr. Nansozi Muwanga, head of Makerere University department of Political Science, Joel Kibazo, the director, external relations and communications at African Development Bank and Shaka Ssali as moderators of the presidential debate.
President Museveni is expected to attend the second round of the presidential debate.
NRM campaign task force spokesperson Mike Sebalu on Wednesday said the party is looking for ways of accommodating the debate schedule in their programme to enable the party candidate to attend.
“As a party, we are looking at harmonizing our programme to enable our candidate [Museveni] attend,” he said. “There are arrangements to accommodate the debate.”
