Shocking pictures of armoured vehicles procured by Uganda ahead of presidential elections have been leaked.
The photos were leaked by a number of Kenya media houses.
“Hey Uganda, you’ve got an incoming delivery from the Mombasa port. Sincerely, your friendly Kenyan neighbours,” NTV Kenya tweeted while sharing the photos of the vehicles yesterday.
The armoured vehicles, some of them embossed with the words ‘Uganda Police’ and that have features including water cannons, riot controls and wedged front plods were spotted at the G-section of the Port of Mombasa port in Kenya.
Uganda goes to presidential and parliamentary elections in less than two weeks.
The ant-riot vehicles may have been procured to quell post-election protests if they arise.
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye who led 2011 post-election walk to work protest is in the race again.
He has been singing “defiance” slogans throughout the campaigns.
Museveni, the incumbent also faces a stiff competition from former prime minister and National Resistance Movement (NRM) general secretary Amama Mbabazi who is contesting under the Go Forward / TDA.
