Parliament has disagreed on allocation 324 billion that president Museveni promised to women.
Museveni made the promise during last year’s national Women’s Day celebrations in Kabale, after acceding to a request by then Gender Minister, Karooro Okurut for a Women Enterprise Fund.
Briefing parliament yesterday, Minister for Gender Muruli Mukasa said government has committed 53billion for the project in the 2016/2017 financial year.
The women entrepreneurship programme is expected to at least benefit 11,200 women groups in 19 districts.
Dokolo District Women Member of Parliament Cecilia Ogwal asked minister to clarify on criteria used to select districts that will benefit from the fund.
“What are the factors which qualify a district to benefit from this women fund, Karamoja is poor but it is not represented,” she queried.
She proposed that all “districts should benefit from the women fund, rather than focusing on 19 districts leaving out the rest.”
