President Yoweri Museveni, the NRM Presidential Candidate in the concluded Presidential elections, has been served with the petition by the Go-Forward.
This comes after lawyers filed the election petition on 1st March at the Supreme Court in Kampala challenging the election results announced by the Electoral Commission.
President Museveni, in the presence of his lawyers, got and acknowledged receipt of the petition at State House Entebbe this afternoon.
The Go-Forward lawyers included Michael Akampurira and Severino Twinobusingye of Twinobusingye Severino and Co. Advocates.
President Museveni and the NRM Party have 3 days to file a reply to the petition.
Supreme Court has set Monday March 7, 2016 to start a preliminary hearing of Amama Mbabazi’s petition.
In his 28 grounds upon which the petition is based, Mbabazi cites cases of intimidation, arrests of candidates and their supporters and voter bribery which amount to election malpractice.
He also argues that the results announced by Kiggundu were inaccurate since there was no tally center
In a statement issued by the registrar of Supreme Court Tom Chemutai, all concerned parties are expected to attend the pre-hearing conference without fail.
The parties that have been invited include; the Directorate of Legal Service, National Resistance Movement –NRM party Secretariat, the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General.
