Speaker gives tickets to National Olympics team
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has handed over air tickets to the Ugandan Olympics team in preparation for Rio 2016.
The air tickets will facilitate Team Uganda to participate in build-up activities in Durban, South Africa.
Kadaga said she was happy that South African Airways had honoured her request to partner with the Parliament of Uganda to sponsor the National Olympics team to travel to Durban for their preparatory games.
“I contacted the Country Manager of South African Airways, Mr. Yewagnesh Biriggwa, to cover the travel expenses of 10 air tickets for the National Olympics team,” the Speaker said.
She urged the team to go and do their best by flying the country’s flag high.
The President, Uganda Athletics Federation, Domenic Otucet, expressed his gratitude towards the Speaker and South African Airways for their support.
“The purpose for travel to South Africa is to participate in the buildup activities in Durban from 23rd to 27th June 2016,” Otucet said.
Members of the team who were present to witness the ceremony were Gordon Ahimbisibwe (Olympics Coach), athletes Mande Abdallah Kibet (10,000 & 5,000), and Araplany Jacob (3,000).
The Rio 2016 Summer Olympics games are an international multi sport event and will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5th to 21st August 2016.
