Baguma must appear in court – Gen. Jeje Odong
By Serestino Tusingwire
The Internal Affairs Minister Gen. Jeje Odong has asserted that all cases against errant police officers will be heard and the convicts will be brought to book without fail.
Gen. Odong said this while giving the government’s position on the current turmoil in the Ugandan Police.
Odong met journalists this morning at Uganda Media Centre offices in Kampala.
He says the hearings of brutal cases against the police are ongoing and in due course ASP Aaron Baguma will appear in court to answer all charges against him.
“I can say categorically ASP Aaron Baguma will appear in court and be charged accordingly,” Gen. Odong said.
The former Central Police Station commander Aaron Baguma is accused of aiding the murder of city businesswoman Ms Donah Katusabe last year over an unresolved Shs9m debt for a vehicle she had bought from Pine car depot, belonging to Mr Muhammed Ssebuwufu (main suspect).
Baguma is also a suspect in the brutal case against the police over beating Besigye supporters.
The minister of internal affairs’ assertion that Baguma will appear before court comes after failing to comply with court orders to appear and answers the charges against him.
Gen. Odong however condemned the gatherings at Makindye constitutional court last week and calls upon Ugandans to remain calm as court does its work of trying these suspects in police brutality where the IGP Kale Kayihura is inclusive.
