Uganda’s Ambassador in charge of special duties in the Ministry of foreign affairs Najuna Njuneki reportedly died yesterday in a plane while landing in Johannesburg, South Africa.
His boss who is the Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa has confirmed the sad news saying Njuneki collapsed in a plane upon landing in Johannesburg.
He was reportedly returning from a meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, with Ugandans living in Nordic countries.
“He got up from his seat, but before he could disembark, he collapsed and before they could take him to a health facility within the airport, he died,” Sam Kutesa said.
Doctors in South Africa are today expected to carry out a postmortem to establish the cause of his death.
Njuneki hails from the Mitooma District in western Uganda and has been an Ambassador in charge of Special Duties in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs particularly for Commercial and Economic Diplomacy for a couple of years.
It’s important to note that in September 2015, Uganda’s then Internal Affairs Minister Gen. Aronda Nyakairima died aboard a plane in Dubai.
