Mabirizi ‘Superman’ Arrested For Attempted Suicide

Mabirizi ‘Superman’ Arrested For Attempted Suicide

Uganda’s Police have arrested the boy who attempted suicide by jumping off the rooftop of Mabirizi Plaza in the middle of the capital, Kampala.

Mustapha Lule, 17, who jumped off the five storied complex early this month was arrested on Monday afternoon and held at Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala.

The country’s Penal Code Act, Section 210 states that any person who attempts to kill himself or herself commits a misdemeanor.

Lule survived after he fell on top of a vehicle, which was parked outside the building injuring his head in the process.

He was later admitted to the country’s referral Hospital, Mulago where he was twice declared dead by the press.

The 17-year-old later apologised to the public for his act although it appears the police had other ideas hence his arrest on Monday.

Commenting on the incident recently, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Emilian Kayima, said they are aware that Lule’s sad life story could have influenced him to jump off the building, but the law must be applied so that no other person attempts to commit suicide.
