Besigye Commends UK Convention For Promoting Uganda
FDC icon, Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has revealed that he had a fruitful presentation at the recently concluded Uganda Convention in the UK despite many of his colleagues saying it’s an NRM platform.
“I would like to point out that I attended the Uganda – UK convention on trade and investment where Ugandans organise it on their own. It’s not a government program. It is a program of a private initiative for a man called Willy Mutenza,” said Besigye.
Besigye further revealed that the initiative had lost it because the government had jumped on it and tried to take control of it.
“The government jumped on it and started putting some money trying to take it over. The initiative had now lost it because of that. People were seeing it as an NRM thing,” said Besigye before adding that; “This time round, Mutenza interested us to go so that in the forum, there is a Ugandan View from the opposition.”
“It was indeed a very good opportunity because there were a number of people who were keen to know about Uganda and I told them that Uganda is a wonderful place but it is run wrongly.”
When our reporter contacted Mutenza, he denied that the government has never put or given him money as stated by Dr. Kiiza Besigye
“We are a private and independent organisation who embrace all participants regardless of their political and tribal affiliation,” Mutenza said.
Despite of Mutenza NRM inclination, he has allowed the Uganda convention in the UK to be impartial where all political parties, tribal affiliations are free to participate and take advantage of the platform.
Ugandans in the UK took long to appreciate the potential of the event despite opposing it.
“Many of our people in London were against my going, saying how can you go to that NRM thing? I said No, that NRM thing has invited me and it’s a wonderful opportunity to tell them what we think those of us who are not in NRM,” said Besigye.
He commended Mutenza for the job well done in promoting Uganda and opposition politicians have vowed to support Mutenza with his efforts to promote Uganda at all cost.
