Besigye must Denounce Defiance Campaign — Kaweesi
By Serestino Tusingwire
Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi has vowed to keep a keen eye on FDC’s Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye until he denounces the defiance campaign.
“The Police will not sit and look at Besigye’s defiance operations. It’s up to Besigye to work well with security agencies to remain safe,” Kaweesi told reporters yesterday on the sidelines of a familiarization tour of Nateete police post by internal affairs minister Gen. Jeje Odongo.
Kaweesi believes if Besigye denounces the defiance campaign, police is ready to allow him move freely like any other Ugandan.
“Police shall not interrupt former FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye if he desists from defiance activities,” he said.
Kaweesi’s remarks come after Besigye’s arrest on Sunday as he left his home in Kasangati, Wakiso district.
The Police say they suspected he was heading to a rally that opposition politicians had reportedly organized in Katwe, Kampala.
However, Besigye said he was going to church and held a Bible.
