Forest Authorities Grilled Over Money From Properties
By Serestino Tusingwire
The Parliamentary committee for commissions, statutory authorities and state enterprises has today grilled officials of National Forestry Authority over Shs2bn they got from some of its properties.
MPs on this committee found out that the money received from the properties was not budgeted for and not remitted to the consolidated account.
The NFA officials are said to have spent the money at source without any accountability.
They have been ordered to appear before the committee again with the documents to explain how they used the money.
Anita Among the vice chairperson of the committee revealed that NFA received Shs2bn, upon the receipt; the officials just spent the money rather than transferring it to the consolidated account.
Micheal Mugisha, the Executive Director of the authority said, “It’s unfortunate that the authority has been lacking policy regulations, the ministry recently came up with regulations which I think will settle all issues in the authority.”
